Corrandulla man ordered to pay €2,000 compensation for nightclub headbutt

A 24-year-old Corrandulla man was ordered to pay €2,000 in compensation to the man he headbutted when his way to the smoking section of a busy city centre nightclub during Race Week was blocked by the crowd.
At Monday’s sitting of Galway District Court Maurice O’Mahoney (24) with an address at Bunnatobber, Corrandulla, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Central Park nightclub, Upper Abbeygate Street, on July 30, 2010, while his co-accused, Shane Higgins (19) with an address at Trienbawn, Belclare, Tuam, pleaded guilty to assault.

Galway Red Cross picked up three awards at the recent All-Ireland Red Cross Cadet and Novice First Aid competitions. The competitions were for cadets aged 10 to 16 and novices from 16 to 18 and were held in the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny. There are two competitions in each grade, an individual event and a team competition which consists of four first aiders.

During a visit to Galway last weekend, Sinn Fein’s finance spokesperson, Pearse Doherty, called on the public to join the campaign to ‘Stop the Handover’ of billions of euros to Anglo bondholders.
Speaking in Ros a Mhíl last Friday, Deputy Doherty announced details of an on-line petition against the handover of up to €700 million when the next bond payment is made on November 2. According to Deputy Doherty a further €1.2 billion is set to be paid out in January despite the upcoming austerity budget due in December taking €4 billion out of the economy. The campaign is urging the public to use their voice and tell the government parties to ‘Stop the Handover’.
