Boston police continue investigation into murder of Inis Meain man

Boston police investigating the murder of Inis Meain native Ciaran O’Conghaile have confirmed that so far there has been no breakthrough in the case.

It has been more than two weeks since the tight-knit community of Inis Meain was rocked by the tragic news that the 36-year-old construction worker had lost his life in a shooting incident in Boston.

Mr O’Conghaile, who had been living in the Dorchester area of Boston for some 12 years, was shot in the chest as he walked home after attending celebrations at an Irish heritage festival. His body was found less than 500 metres from his apartment at around 1am on October 10 and he was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed the shooting is linked to a botched robbery attempt.

A funeral Mass took place in Dorchester, Boston, before Mr O’Conghaile’s remains were flown back to his native Inis Meain for burial.

Investigating police had been seeking information on the whereabouts of two male suspects, however, there have been no new developments.
