Talking books: A service Galway can be proud of

IN 1974, Galway County Libraries set up a service for the blind and visually impaired to allow them enjoy the benefits of the library. It was modelled on one already provided by the National Council for the Blind and Galway remains the only public library in Ireland to provide it. It is totally free of charge.

The Song of Wandering Aengus is the first English-language book illustrated by Marcolin and published by County Galway company Futa Fata, which normally publishes works as Gaeilge.

Creative writing workshops

Theo Dorgan to launch

POET, NOVELIST, and broadcaster Theo Dorgan will launch Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust’s latest series of Poems for Patience.

The launch will take place tomorrow at 11am in the Arts Corridor of UHG and is a part of the Cúirt festival. The theme for this year, the 11th in the series, is ‘We are not separate from the world’, and will see Mr Dorgan introduce 21 poems he has selected by Galway poets Moya Cannon, Rita Ann Higgins, Mary O’Malley, Patrick Deeley, as well as Samuel Green, Carol Ann Duffy, and Sharon Olds.
