MARTIN DYAR, the NUI Galway graduate and acclaimed west of Ireland writer has been shortlisted for the prestigious Shine/Strong Award.
The nomination is for Dyar’s debut poetry collection, Maiden Names, which is published by Galway press Arlen House
Maiden Names has enjoyed enormous critical success since its publication. It is shortlisted for the inaugural Pigott Poetry Prize by British Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy; was described as a “masterpiece” by Colm Tóibín; and was the only poetry collection picked as Book of the Year in The Irish Times by Prof Roy Foster who said he was “deeply impressed” by a “funny, astute, marvellously judged, and a genuinely new voice.”
