Eleven colleges from all over the country are hitting the waves on Achill Island this weekend for the Irish Surfing Intervarsities, hosted by GMIT Mayo.

Twelve out of 15 beaches in Mayo were found to have good bathing water quality according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and all 15 were found to meet the mandatory values as set out by the EU.

Over 2,500 runners are expected to descend on Achill Island this weekend for the Achill Half Marathon taking place on Saturday, July 7.
