Sun, sand, kites, surf-boards and great tunes are the order of the day when Achill Island plays host to the finale of the Irish Kitesurfing Tour Competition at this year’s Battle for the Lake Music and Kite Festival on September 28 and 29.
Considered one of the best locations in the world for kite surfing, Achill Island’s Keel Lake will be transformed into a veritable water wonderland when the best kitesurfers from around the globe descend to showcase their spectacular skills, skimming the surface of Keel Lake with their gravity defying moves as they compete for the coveted crown of King/Queen of the Lake.
Battle for the Lake is a free weekend of entertainment for all the family, young and old. Not alone will audiences be enthralled, entertained and captivated by the kitesurfing action, there will be plenty of activity out of the water as well. There will be live music on the lakeshore, a kids’ zone, funfair, food village and BBQ and a kids kite competition. Pure Magic Kitesurfing will also give kitesurfing demonstrations on the spectacular Keel beach, as well as introductory sessions of paddle boarding and kite surfing for newcomers to these increasingly popular watersports.
Fifteen bands will take to the stage over both nights at the Festival HQ, PureMagic Achill, bringing community, competitors and spectators together for a unique musical experience in the inspirational setting of Achill Island. Some of the artists on the lineup include Mundy, Viking Project, Swing Gamin, Leanne Harte, Cathy, Aogh and DJ Manu to name but a few.
