The Achill Roar Adventure Race returns to Achill on Saturday September 8.
This event offers entrants the choice of beginner friendly mini course (18km ), intermediate friendly sport (31km ), or expert (65km ) challenges.
All events offer a choice of a short swim or longer kayak or standup paddle board (all equipment supplied ) water based section to start in Keel Lough. This will then be followed by a beach and mountain (beach only for mini ) run and a scenic cycle to the finish at Keel Beach.
The Achill event is set to attract the top adventure racers and triathletes in the country as it is one of the events in the MSAI National Adventure Race Series.
Confirmed men racing the expert course include recent Gaelforce winner Tim O’Donaghue (Cork ), four-time Gaelforce winner Peter O’Farrell (Dublin ) who won the Achill Roar in 2009, fellow Dub and 2011 Roar winner Niall Somers and Exposure Sport Castlebar’s Tom O’Dowd, along with a host of others looking to topple the big guns if they are not on top form.
The country’s top women will also be racing and these include dual Gaelforce winner Emma Donlon (Roscommon ), Mayo’s Colette Sweeney, and current national series leader Marie Boyle (Spiddal ).
With spectacular scenery, an away from it all setting, lots of other activities to suit participants and supporters, not to mention the best post race party of the year, this year’s event looks set to be another roaring success.
