It’s a case of all roads lead to Ballinlough this weekend for ladies football in Mayo, with Carancon and Louisburgh competing in the Connacht ladies senior and junior finals respectively. Tomorrow lunch time, Carnacon will get the show on the road when they take on Kilerrin/Clonberne in the senior final at 1.30pm. The Mayo girls have breezed through the championship so far after accounting for Castlebar Mitchels in the county final, then Roscommon’s Strokestown in the quarter-final and St Nathy’s from Sligo in the semi-final. Carnacon who are still under the guidance of Jimmy Corbett and Beatrice Casey are looking for their 15th provincial title in the last 17 years and eighth in a row. With Cora Staunton in rude scoring form and Claire Egan expected back after injury combined with the likes of Fiona McHale and Noelle Tierney they have the more than enough punch to see off the Galway champions on Saturday afternoon.

Ballina Town will hope they can avoid the Super League title race going right down to the wire, when they play their game in hand on title rivals Ballyheane on Sunday. Fergal Forde’s men sit one point in front of Ballyheane in the table at the moment with 28 points from 12 games, while Ballyheane have 27 points from their 13 games so far.
On Sunday, Ballina Town will head to the Sportspark to take on last year’s champions Westport United and take their title off their hands on their own turf. Westport United currently sit in third place in the table seven points behind the leaders and will not be too keen to let Ballina Town win the title on their patch. If Westport United can pick up a point or a win on Sunday then the title race will go down to the final day of the season, and if that happens the Covies will still have a big say in the destination of the title. The final day’s round of fixtures sees Ballyheane host Westport United in Quigley Park and Ballina Town will hit the road again to Castlebar Celtic in the final round of league games. Whatever happens on Sunday, Ballyheane will go into the final day looking to maintain an unbeaten league record having won seven and drawn six of their 13 games this season, it would be some surprise to see a team go through a league season unbeaten and still not claim the title.
