Balla
Last weekend’s stroke competition was won by Bernie O’Connor with a score of 52, his play on the back six separated him from Aodan McSuibhnie in second place, with Martin Moylette taking third place and PJ Brett the gross prize. The ladies’ competition was won by Marie Flanagan with a score of 49, Mary B Prendergast finished in second place with Margaret Walsh finishing third and Geraldine Kilgallon the gross prize winner. Conor Holian won the junior competition on the weekend scoring 53. The final standings in the golfer of the year competition saw Aodan McSuibhnie and Bernie O’Connor share first place in the gents and Mary B O’Donnell take the ladies’ section win.
Ballina
In the 18 hole stableford competition last weekend, Bertha Cooke was the winner with a score of 38pts, with Breege Lennon taking second place ahead of Siobhan Leonard thanks to her back nine play after both ladies finished on 34pts.
Belmullet
Brendan Cafferkey won last weekend’s club competition with a score of 44pts, he finished two points in front of Vincent Hanley in second place, with Sean McAndrew finishing in third place. The front nine competition was won by Vivian Healy on 23pts and the back nine by Donal Shine on 21pts.
Castlebar
Castlebar Golf Club held a big fundraising AM AM last weekend, which was sponsored by Bosh Bar, Linenhall Street, Castlebar. The winners were the team of Martin Reddington, Peter Glynn, Tony Mannion, and James Rocke with a team total of 118 points. Second place went to Henry Horkan, Padraig Corrigan, Frank Starken, and Junior Prendergast with their total of 114 points. Four teams scored 110 each and after a count-back the team of John Hanley, Donagh Barry, John Gilligan, and Thomas Ruane were awarded third place.
The final of the 2013 Junior Matchplay competition was played on Sunday last with James Guerin and Ryan Timlin vying to win the Joe Langan Junior Matchplay trophy. Ryan Timlin emerged victorious at the end.
Claremorris
It was round two of the CBE sponsored Winter League last weekend in Claremorris and Michael Prenty was the winner of the gents’ competition with a score of 31pts, Martin Higgins finished in second thanks to his back six scoring, ahead of Joe Flaherty in third place after both men finished on 30pts. The ladies’ competition was won by Noreen McHugh with a score of 25 points.
Mulranny
Brian McDonald showed that his golf game had fully recovered, after his recent surgery, when he scored 40pts to claim the Helm Bar and Restaurant, Westport, sponsored stableford competition last weekend. Pete Healy filled second place on 38pts with Rick Kenny in third spot also on 38pts.
Next weekend’s stableford is the last 18 holes competition of the regular season. The sponsor is Bosh Bar, Castlebar, and you may play on Friday, in addition to Saturday and Sunday.
The Mulranny Park Hotel sponsored Winter League start date of the weekend of October 27 is fast approaching. Full details are posted in the clubhouse.
Swinford
In the first turkey shoot of the season, Julie Loftus was the winner with a score of 19pts, Annie McNeela finished in second place after a count-back when she finished on 19pts also.
