O’Brien outraged at Government’s cuts to Mayo road funding

Councillor Patsy O’Brien has reacted angrily to the news that the Government has cut €8 million funding for the Mayo County Council 2009 roadwork’s scheme for non-national roads, calling the decision a “breach of contract”. This follows news that the Dept of Transport has reduced Mayo County Council’s original budget of €40 million for the 2009 roadwork’s scheme to €32 million. Councillor O’Brien voiced his concerns after the recent monthly meeting of Mayo County Council held on Inishturk when the shortfall in funding was discussed.

Over €24 million in housing allocation for Mayo — Calleary

Housing allocation funding of more than €24 million has been made available to local authorities in Mayo this year, according to local TD and Minister for State, Dara Calleary. The housing allocations are being made available under several different programmes with the majority coming from the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP) for 2009.

McHale calls on Mountside to make plans known

Claremorris county council candidate Gerard McHale has called on Mountside properties to clarify their intentions with regards to the proposed power plant in Claremorris. “I have been recently informed that Mountside properties are still considering Claremorris as a location for one of their four power plants and I am looking for them today to state that they have no intention to reapply for planning permission for this project in the Claremorris area,” said McHale.

Cribben aiming to promote Ballina from both chambers

“It’s been interesting, I’ve never canvassed for anyone else before never mind myself.” Sandra Cribben is well known for promoting Ballina from her position within Ballina Chamber, but the 38-year-old is hoping to take up residence in a different chamber after June. Cribben put her name forward for this year’s town council elections and hitched herself to the Fianna Fáil ticket in the town where she hopes to take over the seat being vacated by outgoing councillor Padraig Moore, who has decided to step down from the council at the end of this term.
