Leading classical guitarist to perform on Achill

Irish classical guitarist Redmond O’Toole will perform an afternoon concert at 3pm on Sunday October 25 in St Thomas’ Church in Dugort, Achill. This acclaimed musician is one of a handful of performers in the world to play a Brahms guitar, an eight-string guitar played in the position of a cello. Mayo audiences have seen Redmond recently in the Westport Arts Festival and Killala Arts Festival and last July he performed to a full house in St Thomas’ on Achill.

Theatre companies are gathering in force for the beginning of RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival, taking place all next week at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar and culminating in a weekend of fun and excitement for young people and their families over the October Bank Holiday. The annual festival kicks off in truly spellbinding style next Monday October 19 with The Musician, a darkly thrilling piece of musical theatre by Northern Ireland’s Cahoots, purveyors of world-class children’s theatre. The Musician is a new opera for children that tells the story of the child who became the best known flautist of them all… the Pied Piper.

Ladies and gentlemen! Presenting something completely different: So & So Circus Theatre brings the dazzling circus theatre show The Hot Dots to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday 2nd November at 8pm.

The Hot Dots tells the story of two hugely successful vaudeville performers, Frank Johnstone and Evie Steele who first met in 1928, and their subsequent and spectacular fall from grace. Featuring award-winning London-based So & So's trademark acrobatic balancing and a fantastic story set against the backdrop of 1930s Music Hall, this show is a real one-off treat. Performed by So and So founders Kaveh Rahnama and Lauren Hendry, directed by Kristine Landon-Smith, featuring design by Sue Mayes and film by Mark Morreau. Don’t miss it!
