RoolaBoola is in full swing and gearing up for its big weekend over the October Bank Holiday weekend. The Linenhall Arts Centre’s annual children’s arts festival is already rocking to the rafters, and the best is yet to come, with a line-up of top shows, hands-on workshops, drop-in events, and more to keep young people and their families amused, engaged, and entertained over the long weekend. And while the festival ticket office phone has been red hot with bookings, there are still tickets available for various events and workshops to get you into the RoolaBoola groove!
Enter the bizarre world of a wild balloon tamer in Circo Ridiculoso’s surreal comedy Lighter Than Air (Monday October 26 at 5pm ); see An Seanfhear Beag, Branar’s heart-warming puppet tale about an old man and a dog no-one wanted (Sunday October 25 at 1pm and 4pm ); and get multicultural with a dazzling mix of Breton, Irish, and Nigerian live music, From Ile-Ife to The Liffey (Saturday October 24 at 2pm ).
And that’s not all, 24 arts workshops over the October Bank Holiday weekend offer hands-on experience in a wide variety of disciplines from drama to drumming, painting to puppet-making, and singing to samba.
And this Friday October 23 at 7.30pm, there’s a wonderful free spectacle for your delight: The Magician’s Garden is an enchanting visual experience for all the family, a magical display of lit tissue-and-willow sculptures taking place at the HSE Rural Training Centre, Humbert Way, Castlebar. Devised by artist Tom Meskell and presented in association with the RTC, The Magician’s Garden is sure to get everyone into the RoolaBoola spirit.
So there you have it: RoolaBoola, a magical, fun-filled, brew for young people and the rest of the family too. Full programme details available in the RoolaBoola brochure, available to view on www.thelinenhall.com or from the Linenhall Arts Centre. Pre-booking is advised for RoolaBoola shows and workshops.
