Circus theatre at the Linenhall

Ladies and gentlemen! Presenting something completely different: So & So Circus Theatre brings the dazzling circus theatre show The Hot Dots to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday 2nd November at 8pm.

The Hot Dots tells the story of two hugely successful vaudeville performers, Frank Johnstone and Evie Steele who first met in 1928, and their subsequent and spectacular fall from grace. Featuring award-winning London-based So & So's trademark acrobatic balancing and a fantastic story set against the backdrop of 1930s Music Hall, this show is a real one-off treat. Performed by So and So founders Kaveh Rahnama and Lauren Hendry, directed by Kristine Landon-Smith, featuring design by Sue Mayes and film by Mark Morreau. Don’t miss it!

Harp and guitar duo to light up the stage

Dazzling harp and guitar duo Máire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman bring their breathtaking array of musical talents to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday November 4 at 8pm.

The brilliant, innovative harping of Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Irish Traditional Musician of the Year 2001 combines with the astonishing virtuosity and versatility of English guitar wizard Chris Newman, to deliver an addictive and stylish cocktail of powerhouse Irish dance-music, gorgeous airs, evocative old songs and striking new compositions, with shots of hot jazz and bluegrass thrown into the dazzling mix. The latest in a string of scintillating recordings, their new CD FireWire, has garnered extraordinary critical acclaim. These two stellar talents, coupled with Chris's subversively witty introductions, guarantee a unique and captivating evening of music at its very best. Don’t miss it.

Amongst women

Five women writers with Mayo connections present their work in an evening of poetry, music and prizewinners in “Amongst Women” at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday November 5 at 8pm.

Featuring are: Geraldine Mitchell (Louisburgh ), one of Mayo’s most distinguished writers, recipient of the 2008 Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Prize; Pearl King (Crossmolina ), who has read with Anthony Cronin and features regularly at Open Mike events; Aoife Casby (Claremorris ) winner of the Edgeworth Poetry Prize and published in Poetry Ireland; Helen Falconer (Killala ), author of “Primrose Hill” and “Sky High”, two novels published in both the UK and US; and Sally Rooney (Castlebar ), published in a Manchester Guardian anthology, and currently studying in Trinity College. Music on the evening will be provided by young singing sensation Elaine Madden, whose recent sell-out debut concert at the Linenhall received a standing ovation. Amongst Women is a great celebration of Mayo talent where men are also more than welcome - but on this occasion only in the audience! Come and enjoy!

Young opera duo ready to show their talents

Two young stars in the ascendant, soprano Celine Byrne and mezzo soprano Tara Erraught present Songs for Cecilia at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday November 9 at 8pm.

Representing Ireland's brightest operatic talents, multi-award-winning singers Celine and Tara perform a delightful programme of songs under the title Songs for Cecilia. The two singers will be accompanied by highly respected prize-winning solo pianist Dearbhla Collins. The programme for the evening includes a specially commissioned piece by Ian Wilson, songs and duets by Purcell, Mozart, Schumann, Strauss and Puccini, as well as arias from Cosi fan Tutte, The Barber of Seville, Madam Butterfly and Norma. This is part of a Music Network tour, a delightful evening of dazzling talent is guaranteed.
