Ted and Co’s only showing in the west of Ireland

Smash hit comedy treat Ted and Co is coming to Mayo this September, promising to wow audiences with high-energy improvisation, audience participation, and perfect comic timing. A tribute to cult TV classic Father Ted, the interactive comedy experience Ted and Co – The Dinner Show’ debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011, selling out every show and picking up five star reviews. Now the priests are heading east again from Craggy Island to serve up comedy treats at the Mayfly Hotel in Foxford on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15. The Dinner Show brings the audience face to face with the famous trio of priests and their maniacal devoted housekeeper. While enjoying a delicious three course meal, diners will experience first-hand the comical mishaps, mayhem, and misadventures that seem to follow the foursome wherever they go. Prepare to be entertained by the much loved and extravagant Ted Crilly who has a habit of getting into awkward situations, the young and dim-witted Dougal McGuire, and the alcoholic swear machine Jack Hackett - famously drunk since 1936. Mrs Doyle, the housekeeper, is never far away with her precious teapot and sees it as her sole purpose in life to supply the priests and audience with copious amounts of tea.

International choirs join up for Ballina Arts Centre show

The German Male Voice Choir under the direction Peter Hilfinger is visiting Ireland this August and September. They will be performing at Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin, then they are travelling to Ballina to perform with the Rejoice Gospel Choir in Ballina Arts Centre on September 1. This 36 voice male choir will perform a selection of traditional and modern music in both German and English. The Rejoice Gospel Choir, whose first musical director was Lavinia Gilmartin, is now led by Patrick Lacken and has travelled extensively throughout Europe and Ireland and has appeared frequently on national TV. They recently took part in the Mayo International Choral Festival claiming, second place in the gospel section. Rejoice will perform a selection of popular songs and will join with the German Choir for two or three songs. Both these choirs will join up on September 1 at 8pm and tickets cost €10 and booking is essential.

Opening in the Linenhall Arts Centre’s Foyer Gallery is Captured by Song, a fascinating selection of some 60 images held at the National Folklore Collection representing more than 30 years of life and work of song, music and folklore collector Tom Munnelly. The exhibition officially opens on Monday, September 10, at 7.30pm, and includes a talk ‘Tom Munnelly - Captured by Song’ by Ronan Galvin, exhibition curator and lecturer in Irish folklore. Admission is free, all welcome.
