Kilgeever parish, (Louisburgh and Killeen ) is planning a weekend of celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of St Patrick’s Church, Louisburgh, this weekend, September 7 to 9.
One of the highlights of the celebrations will undoubtedly be the concert in the church A Journey Through Time. Not only will it feature some of the most loved songs and hymns of all time but it will feature some high calibre soloists who started their lives in the parish of Kilgeever and brought their talents further afield. Included in the night’s events will be a solo performances by Bunowen native and accomplished Verdi high barritone and actor, Michael Hannon of ‘Panis Angelicus’ and ‘Day is Done.’
Another Bunowen native, Soprano Anne-Marie Carroll Nee Scanlon, will perform Don Oíche úd I mBeithel. Mezzo-Soprano Anne Marie Gibbons from Doughmakeon will perform ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘The Prayer.’
Musical talents who have not emigrated from the parish, Catherine McCleod and Sandra McCluskey, will perform solos of ‘A Mhuire Mhathair’ and ‘Voice of an Angel.’
Musical accompaniment for the evening will be provided in the person of Valerie Quirk who is now well known in the area for her professionalism and generosity with her time and talents. And of course the church choir will be there to keep it all together as they have been for years.
