Oughterard golfers win All Ireland Mixed Foursomes

Oughterard Golf Club: Oughterard is celebrating All Ireland success after winning the Irish Mixed Foursomes trophy. The Connacht champions defeated their Munster counterparts, Lisselan, by 3 - 2 at Castlerock Golf Club. In the semi-finals Oughterard scored a 3-2 win over the Ulster champions City of Derry, while Lisselan beat the Leinster champions, Clontarf, by 4-1.
The team was: Rita Jordan, John Carr (team captain), Valerie Heary (team captain), Jerry Gore, Maire Ni Mhaile, Catherine Hosty, Michael Darcy, Peter Feeney, Laura Gore, Ursula Hernon, and Mairtin O’Cearra.

• Galway Ladies juniors bowed out of Aisling McGing Championship after meeting Cork in the semi-final at Cork Institute of Technology on Sunday. Galway played with the wind in the first half and were rattled by a goal and two points from Cork in the opening 10 minutes. However, after settling, Galway took to their task and by half time the score was Cork 1-3 Galway 0-6. Galway powered into the second half and, after a goal each from Lucy Hannon and Deirdre Brennan, took the lead. However Cork finished the stronger - Cork 2-13 and 2-08.

Eric Elwood is still struggling with a host of injuries, and definitely out are Robbie Morris, Johnny O'Connor, John Muldoon, new signing Barry Barry Faamausili, Eoin FGriffin, and Conor O'Loughlin, while Liam Bibo, who has returned from Australia, will not be considered this week.
However a number of "niggly" injuries to Keith Matthews, both scrumhalves Frank Murphy and Cillian Willis, and hooker Sean Cronin, are causing Elwood and his management team "a bit of headache". Cronin will be tested today for a hamstring injury, and Elwood says he is hopeful Matthews and one or both of the two scrumhalves will "come through OK".

Two Galway rowers have been included in the Irish team to compete in the European Rowing Championships at Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, next week.
Rowing Ireland selected just two crews - a women's lightweight double and a men's lightweight double scull. Tribesmen's Siobhan McCrohan pairs up with UCD's Claire Lambe, and NUIG's Niall Kenny partners Mark O'Donovan from Skibbereen.

Over the past two months 15 teams have been taking part in an u-10 county football league which comes to a head on Saturday in Belclare pitch starting at 10am. The cup competition was presented by the Kilkerrin/Clonberne club five years ago with different clubs taking charge of the running of the competition, and for the past two years Corofin Ladies Football Club has hosted the event. As a result of sponsorship from Elite Oil Products Ltd Belclare, Corofin Ladies Football has been able to enhance the competition by introducing a shield competition. The two semi-finals will see Group A winners Salthill take on Group B runnrs-up Tuam/Cortoon, and Group B winners Corofin take on Group A runners-up Claregalway. The Elite Oil Shield and Kilkerrin/Clonberne Cup finals take place at 11.15am.
