Loughrea triathlon

One of the largest sprint triathlons in Ireland takes place on Sunday when more than 750 people will take part in the Ulster Bank Loughrea Sprint Triathlon.

Organised by Predator Triathlon Club, the triathlon includes the largest juvenile event in Ireland with some 100 young people set to participate across three age groups (under 10s, under 12s and under 14s ).

The triathlon kicks off at 10am for the juniors, followed at 11am by the ladies event in which 75 women will swim a distance of 300m followed by a six kilometre cycle and capped off with a two kilometre run.

The main event with more than 550 participants begins at 2pm and will cover the standard sprint distance of 750, swim, 20 kilometre cycle, and five kilometre run.

Prizes will be presented after the finish of the main race in the Lough Rea Hotel and Spa.
