After a long break over the summer months, the Cooper Galway Senior Hurling Championship resumes with two attractive fixtures this Sunday at 6pm in Killimor and Athenry.
In Killimor, there is a group A top-of-the-table clash between Portumna, who are hot favourites to regain the county cup, and Mullagh. Both sides have shown good form in the group stages and Mullagh have full points from their three games. Portumna are unbeaten too and they will be keen to lay down a marker about their intentions for the months ahead.

The Galway Ladies Senior B footballers have qualified for the Aisling McGing semi-final and will play Dublin on September 3.
Galway have been beaten by Dublin at this stage at every grade this season, resulting in the senior B side being Galway's only remaining representative in an All Ireland.

Galway u-21 hurling team manager Anthony Cunningham will lead his panel to Thurles this Saturday (6pm) in the hopes of returning to to Croke Park for a second successive All-Ireland decider.
His team face a strong Limerick outfit which has already beaten Clare and Cork in an epic Munster final to get to this stage.

It has been a truly miserable campaign for Galway United packed with comprehensive defeats and unfortunately another extremely tricky test awaits on Sunday evening when champions Shamrock Rovers visit Terryland Park.
Despite heading to the Carlisle Grounds in a reasonably optimistic frame of mind last Friday, Galway suffered a harrowing four-goal loss to Bray Wanderers, who took maximum advantage following the early dismissal of Laurence Gaughan. That red card means Sean Connor will again be forced to shuffle his pack due to Gaughan's suspension for the Rovers’ clash which promises to be a severely exacting encounter.

There is rarely a dull moment at Galway United and tomorrow's trip to the Carlisle Grounds for a clash with Bray Wanderers provides an ideal opportunity to end a wretched losing streak that now stands at 20 matches in all competitions.
Despite a committed display against Derry City last Friday evening Galway still lacked class and conviction in the final third as the Candystripes were far too cool and clinical for them at Terryland Park. There were nuggets of hope in Galway's display including the aerial promise of newcomer Laurence Gaughan, the return to form of Paul Sinnott, the diligence of Alan Murphy, and Jin Gu Kim's smashing set plays, but Derry coped.

Paul Conroy was Galway’s All-Ireland minor winning captain in 2007. Next year in Division 2 of the National league, he will probably play county football under his fourth senior manager. He has already outstayed Liam Sammon who got two years (2008 and 2009), Joe Kernan (one year), and now Tomás Ó Flatharta (10 months).

Following a hectic weekend of football action last Saturday and Sunday, three of the county football quarter-finals are down for decision this Sunday. There is a double header in Pearse Stadium with Carraroe taking on Milltown at 3.45pm and Salthill/Knocknacarra facing Moycullen at 5.30pm. Claregalway, who saw off NUIG last weekend, take on championship favourites Corofin in Tuam at 5.30pm. The outstanding quarter-final between Tuam Stars and either Cortoon Shamrocks or Mountbellew/Moylough and Micheal Breathnachs could not be fixed due to the ongoing shenanigans with Mountbellew/Moylough’s appeal.
