Mervue and Salthill will fancy their chances

Galway's two representatives in the League of Ireland first division both face midlands opposition on Saturday evening.

Salthill Devon, who suffered a heavy defeat in their last outing on home turf, will be hoping to take something from their Drom tussle with Athlone Town. Salthill have been performing well with a win over Wexford Youths and a draw with Limerick FC so Paul McGee's charges are not without hope.

Limerick, who have invested significantly this term, took the lead within seconds of the start when one of their high profile additions, Denis Behan, nudged them in front. Salthill, though, were plucky and nine minutes from time Brian Geraghty netted the equaliser. Ronan Forde, Colm Horgan, Geraghty, Timmy Molloy, Ronan Conlon, and Charlie Burke were all prominent for Salthill, who will be eager to build on that gutsy display when Athlone hit the west.

Mervue travel to Flancare Park to face Longford Town and it is certainly a fixture in which manager Johnny Glynn will be targeting three points.

Graham Cummins' two first half goals ensured Cork City departed from Fahy's Field with a victory even though Mervue rallied after the break with Pat Hoban halving the deficit. Late on Mervue, with Shane Keogh's deliveries threatening, came close to a leveller, but Cork survived.

Ger Hanley, David O'Brien, Martin Conneely, John Mountney, and Pat Hoban have all made progress in the Mervue shirt this season and they will be looking to confirm this when they collide with a Longford outfit, who can be decent when the mood strikes.
