Moycullen Ladies through to Connacht final

Only two points separated the sides at the final whistle, but it was Maigh Cuilinn who prevailed to go through to the Connacht final after a nail-biting game against Burrishoole on Sunday.

The Galway side will now face the Roscommon champions, Padraig Pearses, on Sunday  October 25 - with time and venue to be announced.

When I played with the Corofin seniors from 1989 until 2004, we had a fairly good team, with Michael and Aidan Donnellan, Martin McNamara, Trevor Burke, Eddie Steede, Gerry Burke and Derek Reilly as good as any club player in the country.

Yet, that squad found it difficult to put together back-to-back county titles, and only managed two-in-a-row once - in 1997 and 1998.

Galway United's relegation battle continues continues at Eamonn Deacy Park tomorrow (7.45pm) when they host Limerick FC in the SSE Airtricity League premier division.

It promises to be a revealing game for United, who produced a spirited display to steal a 2-1 win against Sligo Rovers at the same venue last Friday. Inspired by several remarkable Conor Winn saves, United survived some difficult moments before Enda Curran pounced, scoring two opportunistic goals. There has been no official update on the reappointment of Galway hurling boss Anthony Cunningham in the wake of a vote of no confidence from players.

The Galway county committee issued a brief statement on the situation earlier this week prior to their meeting with the hurling manager, but since then no official comment has been made on whether the situation has been resolved.
