IBEC wants massive cuts in the numbers employed in the public service but it has nothing to say about the mismanagement and corruption which has brought the Irish banking system to its knees.
This is the view of Labour Party president and Galway West TD Michael D Higgins who has condemned the employers group IBEC for its “entirely one-sided approach to Ireland’s economic problems”.

James P Cunningham, the president of Our Lady’s Boys Club, was named Galway City Credit Union’s Volunteer of the Year at the sixth Annual Mayor’s Awards for Galway, which were held in The Black Box.
The Mayor of Galway Cllr Padraig Conneely presented the top award to Mr Cunningham in recognition of his work over the years on behalf of OLBC and in particular for his work in recent years in securing funding for a new club house in Sea Road.

The Galway City Council must clarify if it is responsible for providing quality drinking water to Old Mervue and update residents on progress in obtaining grants for the connection of new pipes to individual houses.
This is the view of Independent Cllr Declan McDonnell who said there is “some ambiguity” regarding who is ultimately responsible for the provision of drinking water to the tap.
