Phew. That’s it. That’s the last issue of the first 39 years of the Galway Advertiser completed. from next week, the newspaper turns 40. Which means it will be probably have to be grumpier and slightly more balding. It will have to moan and groan even more, and have the odd midlife crisis.

The Ombudsman and Information Commissioner has ordered the Health Services Executive (HSE) to pay €5,000 in compensation to the family of a woman who died while her test results were left lying unopened in a hospital’s typing pool.
The compensation is to be paid because of the unacceptable delay in the examination of a complaint made by the woman’s family following her death.

A young man was injured when he was struck by a car in Market Street in the early hours of Sunday.
Gardaí are treating the accident, which happened between 3.15am and 3.30am, as a hit and run and have appealed to witnesses to come forward. It is believed the car involved in the incident was a gold Toyota Avensis, and the driver of this car is asked to contact the gardaí.
