THE GALWAY Youth Orchestra is moving to a new rehearsal space after 25 years. Rehearsals will now be held in Yeats House, Fr Griffin Road, and in St Mary’s College.

I didn’t have a complicated life. I was run of the mill, still am. ‘D’ya fancy livin in England, there’s a secondment up for grabs in Windsor for six months’. It was one of those fleeting comments in June 2009. ‘Are ya jokin, the kids would never cope’. Sure what would we want livin’ over there, Galway was home. We had made our move back from Dublin. We were happy, ploddin along, wingin it. But when the boss highly recommends he considers it, I know there may be trouble ahead but without the moonlight and love and romance. More like, fasten yer seatbelts, turbulence to come.

More than 85,000 people are expected to attend the 300-year-old Ballinasloe October Fair and Festival which kicks off on Saturday October 2.
The nine day traditional event costs an estimated €160,000 to organise annually and is worth in the region of €8.5 million to the local economy.

This is the view of Labour councillor Derek Nolan, who has sharply criticised Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey, who last week, accused the National Employment Rights Agency of taking a “zealous approach” to enforcing regulations.
