Fuel prices rise again for first time in four months

The price of petrol and diesel has crept upwards at the pumps for the first time since September, according to the latest survey of prices from the AA.

A litre of petrol now costs an average of 159.4 cent, up 1.5 cent since January. A litre of diesel costs 153.7 cent, up 2.9 cent on the figure for last month.

Toyota launches new generation MPVs

Toyota Ireland has just introduced two new generation models into its popular MPV range. The new Prius+ and the 2013 new Verso, as well as enhanced levels of specification to the Verso-S, add significantly to the Toyota range, writes Padraic Deane.

The new models represent an interesting step-up in the segment in terms of design aesthetic, performance, and affordability with prices for five-seater models starting at €17,995 (rising to just under €35,000) and CO2 emissions as low as 96 grams.

What significance a story is given will depend very much on what’s going on that day, what the publication’s attitude is to the current government and what it believes to be populist right now.

Sometimes a government or an individual politician can find itself so deeply unpopular that there is literally nothing it can say or do that would not be spun negatively by the press. A government could announce that all school children will be given a free iPad with all of their books on it, only to read the next day that the wicked Government is driving book shops out of business.
