Vehicle exports up 61 per cent in last six years

Vehicle exports are now at their highest level since the recession commenced, vehicle data experts Cartell.ie has claimed.

Cartell.ie reports that exports have increased by 61 per cent in the last six years. Exports in 2012 were six per cent higher than in 2011.

In total nearly 8,000 vehicles left Ireland in 2012. Luxury marques featured significantly: Bentley, Cadillac, Jaguar and Porsche vehicles were among those exported. Several Harley-Davidson bikes were also recorded as exported in 2012.

The research results show a significant percentage, almost 10 per cent, were exported with finance still outstanding in the Republic of Ireland. Purchasers of those vehicles abroad may find their vehicle subsequently repossessed – Irish banks retain title even when the asset leaves the jurisdiction.
