Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris and Minister of State for Skills and Further Education Niall Collins have this week announced €17 million in capital funding to respond to the growing demand for apprenticeships in the higher education sector.

A reduction of up to €1,000 in undergraduate fees is now being applied to all free fees eligible students’ accounts, reducing the cost of college for 96,000 students by up to 33 per cent.

Minister for Finance, Michael McGrath, has announced in Budget 2024 that free school books will be administered for students up to junior cycle. This measure will cost €67 million, and will benefit over 200,000 children, amounting to €310 per child. Primary school books were already free, but this has been increased to the first three years of secondary school as part of a €55 million package.
