Boost your IT skills with a home-based computer course

Personalised training courses at National Learning Network give students the stepping stone to success, in a supportive and flexible environment. In NLN's Galway centre, courses are available for people aged 18 to 65 who have autism, mental health issues, social anxiety, disabilities or learning difficulties, or for people who had a setback and need support to get their life back on track.

The National Learning Network centre in Galway is now enrolling for a home-based computer course, which is a flexible programme combining both centre-based and home-based learning. The course supports learners to improve their computer skills with the aim of returning to work or progressing to further training and education. Participants will have the opportunity to achieve a QQI Level 5 and ECDL certification.

Oranmore Schools’ Creative Cluster — it takes a community!

Gaelscoil de hÍde, Scoil Íosaf Naofa, Maree NS and Calasanctius College, Oranmore have come together over the past two years to form a creative cluster. This cluster supports students of all ages to develop creative and critical thinking skills, learn to adapt and collaborate as well as to enjoy and explore artistic and creative expression – whether through traditional arts, STEM or other creative avenues. It has been an opportunity for local Oranmore schools to work together to develop creative projects and collaborate on new ideas based on their local experience and unique perspective.

To date, the Creative Clusters Initiative has given 591 schools in 168 clusters nationwide the opportunity to work together to develop creative projects and collaborate on new ideas based on their local experience and unique perspective. Each participating school received funding of €3,000 from the Department of Education.

While many Leaving Cert students have already submitted their CAO, there will still be time to fill out the change of mind form if they want to choose a different CAO course, but it is important to remember that you do not necessarily need to be tied to a career relating to your degree forever. Nowadays there is great flexibility, and opportunities for people to change their careers. Many students do get stressed trying to pick a CAO course or apprenticeship as they feel they will be locked into this job or career for the rest of their life. There are however many ways in which you can change direction, even straight after your degree or apprenticeship.

What's new at Merlin College

Hard luck to the U-15s boys' football team who lost their Connacht A semi final to Clarin College. An outstanding strike from Lee Lydon (Galway United) had put Merlin ahead going into the break. It was Clarin College who would have the better of the second half though, they equalised early in the second half and showed great determination to score a late winner on the day when the game seemed destined for extra time. This Merlin team showed unbelievable skill, strength and resilience on a cold wet day and the school could not be prouder of their achievements.
