GRETB Apprenticeship Graduations 2024 highlights programmes success and growth

The recent GRETB (Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board ) graduation ceremony highlighted the success and growth of apprenticeship programmes throughout Galway and Roscommon.

In 2023, over 300 apprentices graduated throughout Galway and Roscommon. On Friday, May 10, Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board was delighted to host 85 of these apprentices to officially mark their graduation.

The event was opened by Galway City Mayor, Cllr Eddie Hoare. Cllr Moegie Maher, Chairperson of the Board of GRETB, welcomed the graduates and highlighted the increase in female apprentices, noting that there was over 1500 female apprentices in 2023.

David Leahy, the Chief Executive of GRETB, celebrated a new chapter for the GRETB by acknowledging the graduation of non-craft apprentices for the first time. This includes fields such as auctioneering and software design, showcasing the evolving landscape of apprenticeship programmes to meet contemporary job market demands.

Damian Walsh from the National Apprenticeship Office, addressed the audience, highlighting the expanding range of careers available through apprenticeships, urging those interested to explore options on apprenticeship.ie The event was compered by Ken Farragher, Area Training Manager for GRETB, who thanked all the families and employers who supported the apprentices on their journey.
