Tourism industry call to scrap €10 levy

The Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (I.T.I.C.) today called on the Government to scrap the E10 airport travel levy introduced in last month’s Budget.

In a presentation to the Joint Committee on Arts, Sport and Tourism ITIC forecast that the difficult times being experienced by the industry are likely to continue into 2010.

It costs almost six times as much to acquire a new customer as it does to retain an existing one. Go into each customer sales call equipped with an in-depth knowledge of your customers on the products they are currently purchasing from you, when they last bought from you and how much they bought. Most importantly know what they should be buying (up sell, look for cross selling opportunities) that they are purchasing elsewhere. Knowing exactly what services and equipment your customers are buying from your competitors will enable you to advise them if this is something they should be looking at buying from you.

One new fraud case reported every week in Irish business

The Irish Insurance Federation recently re-launched their ongoing anti-fraud campaign and have received a surge in calls from the public in the first week of the campaign.

Insurance Confidential, the hotline run by IIF, has received 3,610 calls in the five years since it was established and is calling on the public to continue to report suspect claims. "When we run the anti-fraud campaigns, we get a surge in calls from the public. In the first week of the campaign we saw a 40 per cent increase in cases reported, which indicates that there is still widespread concern among consumers," said Mike Kemp, Chief Executive, IIF. "People are more aware than ever that insurance fraud means their wallet gets hit and reporting suspect claims is one way of preventing that."
