People are being asked to be vigilant and to call Crimestoppers if they see activity that might be linked to metal theft. Metal theft is a crime that affects a wide range of businesses and community organisations. Reported thefts include beer kegs, copper wires, road signs, jewellery, lead roofs and goal posts. There have also been a number of high profile thefts of precious objects including sculptures and religious relics.

Billy Connolly, the legendary Scottish comedian and actor, is coming to Galway as part of his The Man Live Tour of Ireland this April and May.

The buildings we see on the left of our photograph were once two-storey houses which featured on the 1651 map of Galway. Some years ago, in this column, we showed a painting of those houses and also the ones across the street which gave the impression of a continental atmosphere to this area.
