Build up to national 10k championship moving at pace
It is just over four weeks until the first National Road race championships of 2013. The Spar Great Ireland Run which incorporates the AAI National 10k championships will be held on Sunday April 14, starting at 1pm in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. This year Mayo AC plan to have their largest contingent ever participating, with a broad spectrum of members, ranging from elite to experienced club runners and Fit4Life participants. It is a unique occasion and a great opportunity to wear the famous green and red vest on the big day.

Mayo road league winner first home in Kilconieron five mile event
Mayo AC 2009 Road League winner Gerry Ryan (GCH) was first home in the Kilconieron five mile race on Sunday. All money raised went to the Alan Kerins Africa Appeal. Fionnuala Keane (Loughrea AC) was first woman finisher in 31.38. Paddy O'Toole was first Mayo AC man in fifth place in 28.57, followed by Dave Huane in 11th place in 31.19 and Christy O'Malley, who finished in a time of 35.48. The beginning of spring on the local athletics calendar is usually heralded by the Tubbercurry 10k on St Patrick's Day. 2010 marks the 38th running of this popular event hosted by South Sligo AC.

On Sunday July 5 the Children’s Cancer Charity for the West – CD’s Helping Hands will hold a charity motorbike ride to raise much needed funds children affected by cancer in the west of Ireland. The Nifty 50 will take place between Knock and Tubbercurry and all are welcome to get involved or just go along to enjoy the ride!
