Taste the difference
At an apple tasting in Cheshire recently, my eleven year old couldn’t get enough of the heritage varieties of apple being offered to visitors by a group of National Trust volunteers. Although delighted he was packing in his five a day in as many minutes, I couldn’t hide my surprise, as when offered an apple at home, he typically reacts as though I were trying to poison him. The difference, I suspected, was in the taste – confirmed when I nibbled a few samples myself.

Nothing could be further from the truth; there is a car park at the rear and an underground car park. This is accessed from the Knocknacarra Cross end of the set of shops. In fact you can even park right at the back door and walk directly in as I did.

Become a connoisseur with this old-school French red
In September, John and I went on holiday to Venice, and then up to Tarvisio and Udine, in the north of Italy, to visit our friend Laura. Before the trip, I gave John his mission, should he choose to accept it – which was to please, please drag me out of wine bars and restaurants so that I might actually see something of the country, because God knows I wasn’t going to be able to do it on my own. “Do you know how much I plan to eat?” I kept asking him. “Do you?”
