Athlone Food Circle have just launched the first in a series of videos showcasing the surprising diversity of food choices in the medieval midlands town.

The multi-award winning bar and restaurant in Glasson, The Fatted Calf, was recently voted best gastropub in Leinster 2014 as part of the Restaurant Association of Ireland awards. This is the second time The Fatted Calf has scooped this prestigious award, having won in 2012. Voted best casual dining restaurant in Ireland 2014 by Georgina Campbell and also being named as one of the top 100 restaurants in Ireland by McKenna Guides (formerly The Bridgestone Guide) it’s clear the gastropub is going from strength to strength. And with dedicated staff and loyal customers, they are sure to continue with this success.

The Made in the Midlands Food Village at the Athlone Agri Show promises to be an even greater feast for the senses this year with over 20 food stands supplying everything from goat’s milk ice-cream, Irish cheeses, local honey and vegetables, to organic venison burgers, local pork sausages, and delicious wholesome and speciality breads and cakes.

With sponsorship from Westmeath County Enterprise Board, The Fatted Calf restaurant in Glasson, and Allens of Athlone, the Made in the Midlands Food Village is ready to go at the Athlone Agri Show on Sunday June 26.

The Fatted Calf, located in Glasson has been awarded the Just Ask Restaurant of the Month for November adding to their recent award of Georgina Campbell’s Newcomer of the Year.
