BcoolCycle2School at Coláiste Mhuire, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh

Transition year students in Coláiste Mhuire, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, are organising a BcoolCycle2School competition, designed to encourage students to cycle to school. A bicycle is up for grabs by one of the students who “gets on his bike”.

All students who cycle to school will receive a ticket, they will get an extra ticket if they wear a safety helmet. Each ticket will be entered into a draw for a bike. High visibility jackets will be distributed amongsthe cyclists, and road safety officer Noel Gibbons will give demonstrations on safe transport to school.

The book of evidence was served on John Vincent Sweeney, 15 Circular Road, Ballina, before Ballina District Court sitting on Tuesday, with the defendant now sent forward for trial to Castlebar Circuit Court sitting on April 21, for an unlawful killing and criminal damage charge.

As St Patrick’s Day approaches, the Road Safety Authority is renewing its message to “Never, ever, drink and drive.” In the past 10 years a total of 34 people have been killed and 146 seriously injured on Irish roads during the St Patrick’s holiday period.

BreastCheck to screen women in Ballina

The National Cancer Screening Service is delighted to announce that BreastCheck — the national breast screening programme — is currently inviting women living in Ballina and surrounding areas for their free mammograms. The Government-funded screening service is offered to women aged between 50 and 64 and BreastCheck urges all invited women to make the time to attend their appointments. Women living in Ballina will be screened from a mobile digital screening unit located in the grounds of Mayo County General Hospital, Castlebar.
