Litter conviction for Ballina resident

A woman from Ballina who claimed she asked a friend to dispose of her rubbish was convicted and fined €300 along with costs of €400, by Judge Mary Devins, at Ballina District Court this week.

Ballina Town Council brought proceedings against Analiese Jones, 6 The Brook, Ballina, after Veronia Cetin, the traffic and litter warden in Ballina, received a complaint on January 16 this year that there was litter at the Brook.

Four or five bags of rubbish were found in a laneway and were searched by Ms Cetin who found an unopened letter and a tablet box with Jones’ name on them.

Solicitor for the defendant, Denis Molloy, said that Jones, who is in receipt of disability benefit, asked a male friend to dispose of the litter. She has no previous litter convictions. `
