After having had a highly successful 2008 to 2009, Mayo Youth Theatre-Ballina returns for an even more exciting and ambitious season. Meeting every Tuesday between 6pm to 8pm, members participate in specially designed drama workshops, specialist technical and performance workshops and of course trips to the theatre. But most importantly it is high energy group work and great fun.

Jail and driving disqualification for Shell to Sea protestor

Retired schoolteacher and leading Shell to Sea campaigner Maura Harrington received her fourth jail sentence this year when she was sentenced to three months in jail for assault and trespassing—at Belmullet District Court on Wednesday. This sentence came a day after a two-year driving disqualification was imposed on her at a Ballina District Court sitting.

The dangerous driving case, which was heard in May of this year, related to two dangerous driving charges following an incident in which Harrington pursued a white transit van carrying 16 IRMS security workers who are employed on Shell’s Glengad site through the townlands of Annaghmore and Ballinglen, Ballycastle on July 3 2008.

Eleanoir Cazabon-Regan, who holds a BA Hons (Dance Education) and is a registered teacher with distinction and also mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance, has been the principle of All Stars Performing Arts Academy since 1999. This academy has been offering classes in Ballinrobe for the past 10 years. During these years the pupils of the academy have attained great success in RAD examinations and the annual shows.

Plea to save Neale housing development

A planning application for 14 houses at The Neale is in jeopardy because of the delay in delivering a sewerage treatment plant to the village.

Gerard Warde made the application to Mayo County Council to construct six four bedroom houses and eight three bedroom houses at Ballyshingadaun, The Neale, when he saw that works to the village’s sewerage scheme had begun.
