Mayo mum launches Anam Cara ‘A Balloon to Remember’ campaign

Anam Cara has launched a new initiative entitled ‘A Balloon to Remember’ in memory of the many children who have lost their lives throughout Ireland. The campaign aims to create awareness of the unique support that Anam Cara offers bereaved parents and to raise funds to extend these services to as many bereaved families as possible nationwide.

Deere calls for footpath repairs at Davitt’s Terrace

Castlebar Town Councillor Ger Deere has called on Mayo County Council to repair the footpaths at Davitt’s Terrace and the surrounding areas of the Sacred Heart Hospital as part of their ongoing works on Newline Street. The footpaths between Newline Street and the Sacred Heart have fallen into disrepair and are completely unsuitable considering the number of elderly and infirm people using the route. Many elderly people walk to the Sacred Heart visiting friends or receiving treatments.

Mayo artists campaign for the survival of the arts

A very lively meeting of almost 100 artists and arts workers from Mayo took place at the Linenhall Arts Centre last week as a local response to the national campaign for the arts. The result was the establishment of the Mayo Campaign for the Arts.

Balla mart report

On Saturday October 10 Balla Mart held its usual cattle sale. There were 950 cattle on offer, sold in three rings.There was a good trade and on average prices were up €10 to €20 on last week with more farmers buying.

Don't let your Hallowe’en turn into a road safety nightmare

The road safety department of Mayo County Council is reminding trick or treaters that the major dangers at Hallowe’en are not from ghosts and goblins, but rather pedestrian/vehicle collisions. To date this year 28 pedestrians have been killed on Irish roads.
