The Coronas live in Castlebar tonight

There are still a handful of tickets remaining for tonight’s Coronas’ show in the Royal Theatre and this is a show that you don’t want to miss. Two very successful albums, Heroes and Ghosts and Tony was an Ex-Con, including their recently released single ‘Someone Else’s Hands’, have ensured this Irish band is receiving wide ranging support and affection from fans. Their first album was described by Hot Press as “a soulful line between Jeff Buckley and the Libertines”. The Coronas, featuring Danny O Reilly, Graham Knox, Conor Egan, and Dave Mc Phillips, have achieved platinum sales in Ireland with Heroes or Ghosts, and spawned massive singles such as ‘Grace, Don't Wait!’, ‘Heroes or Ghosts’, and especially ‘San Diego Song’ which became an anthem in pubs and radio stations all across the country.

Finbar Hoban presents Delorentos live at Bar Ritz

Get ready for one of the biggest shows in Castlebar this summer as Dublin-four-piece Delorentos are about to hit Castlebar for an intimate show at Bar Ritz. Tomorrow night (Saturday, August 14) as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents... series Delorentos will take to the stage in Bar Ritz. With support slots to the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, The Coral, and The Arctic Monkeys under their belts, you will not want to miss this very exclusive show.

They very nearly didn't make it; having scored early chart-topping Irish success, the band suffered the collapse of their label Pinnacle, then hit a creative wall, and saw singer Ronan walk out. The remaining members decided to plough on, until Ronan suddenly returned, tail between legs, and Delorentos were back on track.

Mundy returns to the Royal for a Ruby Room session

Mundy is back in The Royal Theatre Castlebar on Saturday August 28 on a solo tour as part of the Ruby Room sessions. Generally on the bill with Sharon Shannon’s big band alongside Damien Dempsey and Shane McGowan, this is Mundy’s first solo show in the Royal and is eagerly awaited.

Choice at the Royal is Mayo’s newest nightclub, and living up to its name it offers a choice for every taste. This Saturday night Big Jim in The Café Bar will be belting out a mix of funk, soul and R ‘n’ B, with Johnny Rice and Danny Mac in the Ruby Rooms spinning eclectic mix of tunes, and the best in commercial in the Velvet Room from 11pm. And if that wasn’t enough, it is free in before 11pm every Saturday night, and even if you are there after 11pm, you are still getting the choice of three different genres for the price of one.

Southern Tenant Folk Union at the Linenhall

Explosive folk/bluegrass outfit Southern Tenant Folk Union brings its own unique brand of music to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Wednesday September 1 at 8pm. Taking its name from a multi-racial union of sharecroppers and tenant farmers founded in Arkansas in the 1930s, Southern Tenant Folk Union delivers a heady brew of old-time, bluegrass, gospel and Celtic folk music. The band comprises the formidable talents of Adam Bulley (mandolin/guitar/dobro/vocals); Silas Child (double bass/vocals); Ben Ivitsky (fiddle/vocals); Ewan Macintyre (guitar/percussion/vocals); Chris Purcell (guitar/vocals); Jed Milroy (guitar/vocals); and Pat McGarvey (banjo/guitar/vocals). Southern Tenant Folk Union’s third album, The New Farming Scene, has just been released.
