Get ready for one of the biggest shows in Castlebar this summer as Dublin-four-piece Delorentos are about to hit Castlebar for an intimate show at Bar Ritz. Tomorrow night (Saturday, August 14 ) as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents... series Delorentos will take to the stage in Bar Ritz. With support slots to the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, The Coral, and The Arctic Monkeys under their belts, you will not want to miss this very exclusive show.
They very nearly didn't make it; having scored early chart-topping Irish success, the band suffered the collapse of their label Pinnacle, then hit a creative wall, and saw singer Ronan walk out. The remaining members decided to plough on, until Ronan suddenly returned, tail between legs, and Delorentos were back on track.
Their current album, You Can Make Sound, is both a break-up and a reconciliation album. Musically, the single 'Hallucinations' is as claustrophobic, heavy, and insistent as Bloc Party or Editors were before guitars were out, and synths were suddenly in. The first single off the album 'S.E.C.R.E.T', meanwhile, is a driving, dance-driven and powerful piece of pogo-punk, chronicling secret, on-tour relationships. The single was released in Ireland in conjunction with some appropriately hush-hush shows, where fans were invited to text a mysterious number, which would reply with details of the location (“It cost a fortune in credit,” admits guitarist Kieran ). Support on the evening will come from Miracle Bell and Supermodel Twins.
Kildare band Miracle Bell’s debut album, Light Shape Sound, has been a long time in the making. Some members have known each other for as long as they can remember and others since they were in school. In their teens, singer Dave Prendergast and drummer John Rigney befriended over their love of music and, in their home town of Naas, played together in a covers band. Slightly younger than John and Dave and still in school, Dave’s cousin John Broe – a burgeoning singer-songwriter - would attend these gigs and cheer them on – delighting in what they were doing. After one of these shows one night, Broe asked his cousin could he jam with them some time and, from there, Miracle Bell emerged. Dave took the lead on vocals, guitars and synths, John Broe on backing vocals, guitar and synths, and John Rigney sold his car to afford a drum kit and took the role of drummer and backing vocalist.
Originally called When in Rome, the trio jammed regularly and gigged here and there, using the band more as a pastime. However, the more time they spent together the more serious they became about creating their own sound. The band have just released their brand new single ‘Love Sounds’, which is available to download from iTunes now.
The first support band of the night are a pop/rock outfit called Supermodel Twins who hail from Limerick. Supermodel Twins have just finished up work on their debut album after a 20-month stint in the studio with producer Noel Hogan (The Cranberries ) and engineer Owen Lewis (Lady Gaga, REM, Hole ). The finished product, untitled as of yet, is slated for release this September.
