Over 500 job vacancies available in US companies across the west

US Companies in Ireland are currently seeking over 2,500 people to fill vacant positions in their companies, the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland’s annual Workforce Activation Survey shows.

The Survey is carried out each year to track employment trends among US companies in Ireland. One hundred and ninety-five companies responded and, of those, some 75 per cent are recruiting to fill current vacancies. Importantly, 530 of these job vacancies are available in the western region.

Promising future for Mayo’s InterTradeIreland graduates

Five graduates from Mayo were among 46 participants of InterTradeIreland’s Acumen and Fusion graduate programmes honoured at the 2012 graduation ceremony which took place in the UCD Michael Smurfit School on Friday last. Eighty five per cent of graduates who have successfully completed the Fusion and Acumen programmes to date have received offers of a permanent management position within their placement firms, highlighting the business and economic contribution that graduates can make to SMEs.

New €2 million programme to promote co-operation between businesses

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, has launched a new €2 million programme to encourage groups of businesses to collaborate to achieve specific business objectives, improve competitive advantage, create mutual financial gain – and ultimately create jobs.

The programme, which is based on international best practice, is being supported jointly by Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, Údarás na Gaeltachta and the City and County Enterprise Boards. The announcement marks the delivery of a key measure under the Action Plan for Jobs 2012, and represents a new departure in industrial policy by encouraging businesses to co-operate with each other to develop clusters of strength.

Shopping treasure hunt with a twist!

Gnó Mhaigh Eo in conjunction with the Croí Chaisleán an Bharraigh Festival Committee are running a Tóraíocht Taisce Shopping Treasure Hunt) with a twist on Saturday July 21. As part of Gnó Mhaigh Eo’s Labhair Gaeilge Liom (Speak Irish to Me) campaign they are inviting all businesses in Castlebar to get involved. The aim of this event is to encourage gach éinne ó Maigh Eo to come to Castlebar for the day, get the opportunity to practise their Irish and be in with a chance to win prizes and vouchers from Castlebar shops while they’re at it.

A clue or question based on each business will be given to the entrants who will then have to go into each business to get the answer to the clue or question. For this to work, each participating business will have to nominate a staff member(s) happy to wear a Labhair Gaeilge Liom sticker. The entrants will have to find that staff member and speak to them through Irish to get the answer.

Mayo supermarket wins award for excellence in retailing

Eurospar Belmullet is amongst a small group of retailers from around the country, which was recently honoured at the inaugural Top of the Tree (TOTT) retail awards run by BWG Foods (owners and operators of the EUROSPAR brand in Ireland). The awards programme recognises best practice and outstanding retail practice in several supermarket departments: customer care; off-licence; butchery; fruit and veg; and delicatessen.
