Belmullet Tidy Towns nominated for the Calor Sustainable Community Champion

Calor, Ireland’s leading supplier of rural energy solutions, has this week announced the shortlist of nominees for the new Calor Sustainable Community Champion 2014, the search for the most green or sustainable community in the country. Entries were  received entries from every corner of Mayo. Belmullet Tidy Towns has been shortlisted as the Mayo nominee.

The community-focused Belmullet Tidy Towns has been placing eco-friendly and sustainable living at the centre of its ethos for the last number of years. The community has come together in a concerted effort to improve sustainability efforts through various community projects and campaigns, such as ‘Bin Your Butt’, the community freecycle garden, and a drive to install rainwater harvesting, and implementing energy saving process in public buildings in the town, as well as other dedicated sustainable measures through Fuinneamh Inmhaireanta Iorrais.

Search is on for seasonal workers at Argos in Castlebar for Christmas

Leading high street retailer Argos is looking for 10 seasonal workers in Castlebar to join existing store teams in the run up to the peak Christmas shopping season. Argos is recruiting 500 seasonal workers in total across the Republic of Ireland for the Christmas period. Extra customer advisors will be joining existing Argos staff to ensure thousands of wish lists are fulfilled in time for the big day. With toys, video games, tablets and phones expected to be popular with customers this year.

Tesco Mayo stores donate €1,000 to local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative

Tesco stores across Mayo have this week donated €1,000 each to their nominated local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative, which will see €1 million donated annually to good causes across Ireland. Voted for by customers, 18 good causes across Mayo received their share of their local Tesco stores’ €1,000 community fund.

Comebacks and the final countdown

With the penultimate round of games in the Mayo League taking place this weekend across most divisions, there are a few things already sorted out, but a lot more to be decided. What we know for sure is that in the Super League Westport United are the champions, with Castlebar Celtic the runners up. In the Premier A, the title and promotion race is still alive and well and Urlar United have been relegated while three other teams are battling to beat the drop. In the Premier B both the title and promotion race are still alive and well, while at the bottom Iorras Aontaithe were withdrawn while the battle to beat the drop is still all to play for for a couple of teams. In League One, Manulla B are already promoted while Bangor Hibs can book their place in the Premier B alongside them this weekend, while at the bottom Ballyvary Blue Bombers and Straide and Foxford United B are dropping to League Two next year. In the bottom tier in League Two, Fahy Rovers B have taken the title while on Sunday in Milebush Park Ballina Town B and Charlestown Athletic B will battle it out in a play-off to take the last promotion spot.
