Tesco Mayo stores donate €1,000 to local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative

Tesco stores across Mayo have this week donated €1,000 each to their nominated local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative, which will see €1 million donated annually to good causes across Ireland. Voted for by customers, 18 good causes across Mayo received their share of their local Tesco stores’ €1,000 community fund.

Customers are given a token at the checkout every time they shop in the store and then place that token in the box allotted to their favoured local good causes. At the end of every six-week period, the number of tokens received by each good cause is counted and the up to €1,000 store fund is distributed proportionally to the good causes.

Every six weeks, three Mayo based good causes are nominated in each store, giving more local groups the opportunity to receive funding. Customers can vote for their preferred good cause at their local Mayo store.

Good causes that received funding in Mayo were from Tesco Ballina, St Nicholas School, Ballina Boxing Club, and Ballina Community Centre. From Tesco Ballinrobe were Pieta House, Creann Mór, and the Alzheimer’s Society. From Tesco Castlebar were Cystic Fibrosis Mayo Unit, AIRC, and Castlebar Order of Malta. From Tesco Claremorris, The Rainbow Programme, Dalton Nursing Home, and Curam Family Support. From Tesco Swinford, Console, The Roisin Tansy Fund, and Meals on Wheels, while from Tesco Westport it was Auaghgower Athletic, Westport United, and Westport Ladies GAA.

Another 18 good causes across Mayo have been nominated for the next Tesco Community Fund donation.
