The Connacht Property Auction- eleven days to go to last public auction of the year

With the next Connacht Property Auction fast approaching on Tuesday, November 11, the auction team are expecting a busy period with viewings and interest in the properties on offer. The Connacht Property Auction work in partnership with more than 40 auctioneers in Connacht offering properties for sale in Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo and even creep into Clare. Patrick Folan from The Connacht Property Auction noted: “Our last auction in September was hugely successful with 20 of the 23 lots sold. Furthermore, two of the three properties which were not sold at the auction, have since been sale agreed via our online auctions. Our online auctions are running continuously and are a great option for homeowners looking to sell their properties before Christmas.” Mr Folan went on to say: “We are currently taking entries for our auctions and invite homeowners to speak to us now if they want to be sold before the end of the year. We sell over 60 per cent of our properties through our online auction and properties can also go forward to our public auctions which we run regularly throughout the year.”

Connacht head to high-flying Ospreys

Connacht Rugby are back on the road again to face the unbeaten Ospreys who are flying high in this season's Guinness Pro 12. With a six-day turnaround Pat Lam's charges head to Liberty Stadium knowing they will have their work cut out for them in this evening's game (7.35pm). Steve Tandy's Ospreys have not had their wings clipped at home since January, and they boast the best scoring difference of any team in the Pro 12 which is reflected in their pole position. Although missing nine players currently involved in Warren Gatland's Wales squad, Tandy still has considerable talent at his disposal.

Mayo companies pick up All Ireland Occupational Safety Awards

A number of Mayo companies picked up awards at the All Ireland Occupational Safety Awards in Mullingar recently. Mairead McGuinness, Fine Gael MEP and vice president of the European Parliament, presented the awards. She said the awards mark the achievement of people who day-to-day carry out what are in many ways mundane tasks in detecting risks, training personnel, enforcing and monitoring good practices, and inculcating rather than dictating a safety ethos in the workplace.

Mayo companies recognised as shining lights of the Irish SME sector

Mayo-based companies Eachtraí Uisce Teo and Portwest were two of a number of companies acknowledged for their contribution to enterprise and innovation across the island of Ireland. They were awarded Business Ambassador status by InterTradeIreland at a special event held in the Mansion House in Dublin. The event was hosted by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation, Richard Bruton.

Portwest, based in Westport, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of stylish comfortable, high quality work wear. Based in Belmullet, Uisce specialises in the provision of water sport skills courses and Irish language courses to students in primary and post primary schools. Speaking at the event, Ciaran O’Murchú, the managing director of Uisce, said: “InterTradeIreland support for Uisce has led to significant up-skilling of staff, an increase of turnover and new jobs in our company. Being selected as an InterTradeIreland Business Ambassador is very significant for us as it is recognition and acknowledgement our commitment within Uisce to continual improvement, innovation, and growth in our sector.”

Reduced hospitality VAT rate creates Mayo jobs

According to a report published by the Restaurant Association of Ireland, 605 new jobs in the food, tourism, and hospitality sectors have been created in Mayo since the reduced VAT rate of nine per cent was introduced in July 2011. To highlight the scale of job creation, the report compares the number of direct new jobs to a major local employer, revealing that the 605 extra jobs created in Mayo is more than four times the number of people also employed in Mayo at Knock International Airport.

McDonald’s Castlebar re-launches after €350,000 refurbishment

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny officially launched McDonald’s Castlebar restaurant last weekend following its extensive €350,000 refurbishment. The 93 seater restaurant, which is situated on the Lower Western Road, employs 75 staff from the local area and is owned and operated by Rhoda and Martin Cramp. The refurbishment work was carried out entirely by local tradespeople, including builders, plumbers, painters, and air conditioning technicians from the Castlebar area.

Mayo bloggers finalists in Blog Awards

Five bloggers from Mayo have reached the final stages of the Blog Awards Ireland 2014. Organisers Lorna Sixsmith and Amanda Webb have described the standard of blogs in this year’s shortlist as ‘extremely high’ with the scoring among the finalists as extremely close.

The winners of each of the 32 categories will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Westgrove Hotel in Clane on Saturday October 4.
