An Taoiseach Enda Kenny officially launched McDonald’s Castlebar restaurant last weekend following its extensive €350,000 refurbishment. The 93 seater restaurant, which is situated on the Lower Western Road, employs 75 staff from the local area and is owned and operated by Rhoda and Martin Cramp. The refurbishment work was carried out entirely by local tradespeople, including builders, plumbers, painters, and air conditioning technicians from the Castlebar area.
Speaking at the launch, Taoiseach Kenny said: “I am always very pleased to see a local business investing in upgrading its facilities. This investment is a vote of confidence in McDonald’s Castlebar restaurant and is a welcome signal of the company's commitment to the area. McDonald’s is a significant contributor to the Irish agri-food sector, through its purchasing of Irish beef and dairy produce for use in Ireland and for export. It is also great to see another Mayo-based company, Dawn Meats in Ballyhaunis, from whom McDonald’s sources its beef, benefit from the company’s continued success and growth. I wish the local owner operators, Rhoda and Martin Cramp, and their team every success in the future.”
McDonald’s Castlebar owner operator Rhoda Cramp added: “We are delighted with the new look and feel of the restaurant and customer feedback has been extremely positive. Since first opening in Castlebar in 1998, this restaurant has proven to be a big hit with people living in the area and from the rest of the county. Our dedicated staff have been a major part of this success, and following the recently completed upgrade, we look forward to welcoming even more people to the restaurant and to serving them their favourite McDonald’s meals for years to come.”
This refurbishment in McDonald’s Castlebar is the latest step in an on-going process that McDonald’s is undertaking to upgrade and improve its entire range of restaurants across Ireland. McDonald’s uses 100 per cent Irish beef in all its Irish restaurants, which is supplied exclusively by Dawn Meats including their facility in Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.
McDonald’s is very committed to staff development and over the past two years, three employees from the Castlebar restaurant have been commended through the company’s national scholarship programme, whereby staff have the opportunity to win up to €1,000 towards their continued education.
Through McDonald’s FAI Future Football, a national programme to support the development of football at grassroots level, McDonald’s has supported local football clubs including Castlebar Celtic and hosted a Future Football Fun Day at the club in May this year. McDonald’s Castlebar also sponsors several sports initiatives across local GAA and rugby clubs.
