Galway Tribesmen Rugby League team returned to action at the weekend in the first of a mini All Ireland tournament for 2020, and delivered a winning start.
The Tribesmen fought hard to claim a 16-12 win over the visiting Barracudas at the Claddagh, and they now prepare for their next fixture, also at home, against Cork Bulls on August 15.

At what age did you start playing? I was 23 and had just moved to Dublin after my Masters. I was always interested in playing, but never really had the chance to before. A friend from college had started playing on her year abroad and got me to join when she came home. Best thing I ever did.

On a week when Connacht Rugby and Galway GAA lost one of its former players, the well-respected gentleman Jimmy Glynn, our memory is of the visit to Galway of the Australian Rugby team in 1996. Few sports people have the opportunity to test themselves against the best in the world, but Jimmy Glynn did against the All Blacks in 1974. Some 22 years later when the Wallabies came to visit, Jimmy remained an avid follower of the game through his involvement with Corinthians RFC.
