Ravenhill has rarely been a happy hunting ground for Connacht Rugby - their last victory was in 1960 - and Connacht head to Belfast for tomorrow evening’s fixture on the back of Eric Elwood’s decision to step down at the end of the season.
Connacht could be forgiven for being a little unsettled, but they will find an unbeaten Ulster side, in their first home match since Nevin Spence’s tragic death, in uncompromising form.

The latter stages of the second half of the All-Ireland final must have been torturous for Anthony Cunningham. But he did not let his inner turmoil betray him, battling through the pain alongside his players.
‘We win together, and lose together’. That is the mantra of a real fellowship and, even in his initial analysis of the game, Cunningham spoke with rationality and pride. “We had very see-saw first half, but the boys fought back tremendously. We’re very proud of them. This team is on an upward curve, and the signs look extremely good for them.”

Gort, Athenry and Galway golf clubs all suffered agonising defeats at the Chartis Europe Cups and Shields in Kinsale last week.
Playing in the Pierce Purcell Shield, Gort were looking for their second green pennant in this event, having won the shield in 2003 at Lisburn. Having navigated their way past Ulster champions Foyle, they set up a final showdown with Limerick side Newcastle West who had hammered the Royal Dublin club at the semi-final stage.

Traditional city rivals St Mary's and St Joseph's colleges compete for the Walter Burke Memorial Cup tomorrow in St Mary's at 1.30pm.
This is the second staging of the match which the Bish won last year on a 3-2 scoreline. Walter Burke had retired in late 2009 after a career spanning 40 years during which he was instrumental in introducing and developing soccer in Mary's. Sadly, Walter passed away Christmas 2010, following a short illness.
