The 28th running of the famous Kearney Cyles sponsored Streets of Galway 8k road race takes place this Saturday ( August 10) at 7pm.
The race this year is a complete sell out, with nearly 2,500 entered. As a result no entries are available on the day, and runners are asked to arrive well in advance of the start time.

The cream of Ireland’s young soccer talent began their assault on the Macron Galway Cup yesterday which takes place in Drom over the next five days.
The tournament, which boats teams from Ireland, Britain, Finland, Norway, and for the first time Ukraine, has been extended by an additional day this year to include a four team u-19 elite section boasting Cork City, Limerick, Derry City and the hosts Salthill Devon.

Conor Whelan's opportunistic goal after 38 minutes in Semple stadium last Sunday proved decisive as Galway produced a storming finish to overcome Laois in the Electric Ireland All-Ireland minor quarter-final, and set up a date with Limerick on August 18 in the All-Ireland semi-final.
Galway came through on a score line of 1-19 to 0-13.

Suddenly following a four goal triumph over Finn Harps, possibilities exist for Mervue United who travel to the City Calling Stadium on the edge of Longford Town this Saturday evening.
Seven points divide table toppers Longford and fourth placed Mervue with Athlone Town and Waterford United in between and very centrally involved in the promotion mix. There had been a degree of uncertainty about Mervue considering their mixed form a month ago but, inspired by a particularly promising Ryan Manning performance, they dealt with Harps at Fahy's Field last Friday. Two victories and a draw in their past three fixtures ensure Mervue are firing once more and manager Johnny Glynn has them primed to finish the campaign strongly.

After two very comprehensive wins in the first two rounds of the qualifiers, it is no surprise that Armagh manager Paul Grimley has stuck with the same 15 players to face Galway this Saturday in round three at Pearse Stadium (5pm).
In round one Armagh beat Wicklow by 2-21 to 0-2, and then last weekend they hammered a disappointing Leitrim outfit by 8-13 to 0-10 at Carrick-on-Shannon.
