The meeting, held by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, will outline how new plans will affect farmers in the 12 Bens/Garraun and Maumturk mountain complex special area of conservation (SAC).

A consultant urologist at University Hospital Galway has alleged that a significant minority of junior hospital staff are being subjected to low level racist bullying in some of Ireland’s hospitals.
Non-EU doctors’ representative Dr Syed Jaffrey was commenting after it was revealed that 64 bullying claims were made against medical personnel in the health service last year. East Galway Fine Gael TD Ulick Burke had sought the figures from the HSE.

Women’s risk of being diagnosed with cervical cancer will be greatly reduced thanks to plans to introduce a vaccination programme for 12-year-old girls next year and to roll out a cervical screening programme nationally.
That is according to local Fianna Fail TD Noel Treacy who says 180 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed in Ireland each year. Some 70 of these result in death.

A Romanian man, who was caught drilling holes in the back of a parking meter to siphon money from its collection box, was sentenced to six months in prison at the holiday sittings of Galway District Court yesterday.
Vasile Sabadas (26), with addresses in Collins Avenue, Dublin, and Sallins, Co Kildare, pleaded guilty to causing €5,790 worth of damage to the pay parking machine, which belongs to Galway City Council, at the Docks, Galway, on June 22 last.
