New head of research at GMIT

Dr Patrick Delassus has been appointed head of research at GMIT. Dr Delassus is a member of the senior executive of the institute and his brief extends to the management and leadership of the research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional engagement strategy of GMIT.

Dr Delassus managed the department of mechanical and industrial engineering at GMIT’s Dublin Road campus for seven years. He has been engaged in research for 12 years, focusing mainly on biomedical engineering, marine engineering, and diverse product design projects for industry.

Green Dragon goes off the radar

Ireland’s Green Dragon, currently sailing down the coast of Africa towards Cape Town on the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, is the first to deal its “stealth” card.

The StealthPlay, which gives each boat a chance to hide on the racecourse for 12 hours, allows teams to make a tactical break from the fleet without the rest of the competitors knowing what they are doing.
