Community forum demands funding for better transport infrastructure

The reliance on private cars as the main mode of transport is seriously damaging the health and quality of life of people in Galway. The aim now must be to develop a transport strategy where priority is given to pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport.

This is the view of Nuala O’Hara, chairperson of Galway City Community Forum. The forum met with the Minister of Transport Noel Dempsey during his recent visit to Galway to urge him to provide state funding for a sustainable transport infrastructure to help solve the city’s increasing traffic congestion.
